Who Is Going to Welcome New Gateway Casino in 2021?

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment has a concrete plan for expansion across the Canadian provinces with active development in British Columbia and Ontario. Wasaga Beach and London are two cities in Ontario that are eagerly anticipating their independent casino operation in the upcoming years. Prioritizing is a must for the gaming leader which would mean that some projects have to yield the right of way to others.

Wasaga Beach has been more than ready for a new casino venue ever since Gateway Casinos pinpointed it as a casino host in October 2018. Back then, the casino operator revealed that the project would amount to some CA$30 million spanning over 10,000 square feet of space. Projections are that the casino operator is about to employ some 400 locals.

Gaming Expansion in 2021

Wasaga Beach is an already popular location for people on holiday and a casino venue could make the most of the intense flow of customers. Local businesses are also expected to benefit from the expected increase of individuals. As for the gaming revenue allocations mandatory for the host community, Gateway Casinos revealed that it could rake in up to CA$2 million annually. Cascades Casino Wasaga Beach promises much, but it will wait until 2021.

The spring of 2020 is expected to see the groundbreaking ceremony of this new casino complex in the vicinity of Mosley Street roundabout. Another major project Gateway Casinos has in the works is Starlight Casino London. The CA$75-million independent casino complex is about to create up to 700 new job opportunities for locals. It is going to be built on Wonderland Road, north of Wharncliffe Road. Controversy surrounded this project, as the initial plan called for a casino expansion at Western Fair District.

Gateway Casinos London is the slots location currently welcoming local gaming enthusiasts within the premises of the fairground in London. However, the conversation between its management and Gateway Casinos extended over two years without much progress, which led to the eventual pinpointing of an entirely new property.

Details on Future Casinos

The groundbreaking ceremony of this project is expected to happen at the beginning of 2020 and result in a Starlight Casino London opening ceremony in 2021. Playtime Casino Kenora is another pot-stirring project. Gateway Casinos wants to build the new casino on the former Abitibi mill property. Locals refuse to see gambling operation in such a central area of Kenora, which led to some 700 signatures in a petition supporting a proposed Plan Amendment and Zoning Bylaw Amendment.

If city officials take it into account, zoning would make gambling operation impossible on that particular property. Instead, the General Commercial area in the vicinity of Veterans Drive and Ninth Street might be a better area for casino complex building. Meanwhile, the Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation claims the First Nation is victim of favoritism injustice. Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario pulled Golden Eagle Casino’s license in 2004.

Now Gateway Casinos wants to build a CA$21-million casino in the area. Earlier this year, the First Nation filed a lawsuit against Gateway Casinos, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, and the government of Ontario. Its ultimate goal up to this point was to eliminate Gateway Casinos’ chances of operating in Kenora. Divisional Court ruled was to deny its bid to overturn the casino plan. Upcoming months could see more development on the subject.
